Jun. 06, 1984 - Kennedy Space Center, Fla. - Hughes Aircraft technicians and quality assurance personal perform work on the SBS 4 spacecraft scheduled for deployment on Shuttle flight 41-F. The SBS 4 spacecraft is being processed in Hangar All at the Caps Canaveral Air Force Station. SBS 4 utilizes the Hughes Aircraft. It has 10 transponders which operate in the Ku-band frequency. One notable difference between SBS f4 and its three predecessors in the inclusion of, two spot beams designed for Satellite Television's early-entry direct broadcast satellite system. Five of the transponder's are leased to Satellite Television Corp. for their direct broadcast program. The other five will be used for the growth of Satellite Business System's basic services. SBS 4 will be permanently stationed at 91 degrees west longitude. The spacecraft has a design lifetime on nine years
