Jul. 07, 1984 - Kennedy Space Center. Fla. ---Discovery's engine number 3 (left) was removed from the orbiter while at Pad 39A after an aborted launch attempt on June 26. The Space Shuttle's onboard computer halted the 41D countdown at T-$ seconds when a fuel valve on the number 3 engine failed to open. The malfunctioning engine will be shipped to the National Space Technology Laboratories Bay St. Louis plant in an effort to duplicate the launch abort events. Discovery's original engine, (right) arrived at Pad A For installation in the #3 cavity in the orbiter's sft end
