Nov. 11, 1985 - Kennedy space center, Fla.. Sharon Christa Mcauliffe, a social studies teacher at Concord High school, Concord, New Hampshire, was selected by NASA to be the first teacher to go in to space abroad the space shuttle. she is the finalist in the NASA Teacher in space project which was announced by president Reagan in August 1984. Her flight is scheduled for January 1986
