1963 - Cock-fight.. The men who bet on blood. Police make dawn raid - in Sydney - Australia: Australian police from Sydney - recently maid a raid - just before dawn - at Hpxton Park on the outskirts of the city - and caught a number of men red-handed in the midst of a cock-fight.. Subsequently in the court 12 men were each fined £50 or 100 days hard labour.. SET. SGT. Gorman told the court - the ring where the cock fights took place was 500 yards from a road - in thick scrubland.. All the cock birds had their natural spurs cut off - and police found five boxes of needle pointed metal spurs - which when fitted to the birds - tore each other to death.. Photo shows some of the needle-pointed metal spurs found by the police when they made their raid at Hoxton Park, Sydney.. The natural spurs of the cock birds had been cut off.
