September 1967 - The U.S. Naval Communication Station, North West Cape, Western Australia, which became operational on 1 September 1967, was built under the guidance and direction of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command. It is the highest man-made structure in the Southern Hemisphere and is the worlds largest facility devoted to vety low frequency transmissions.
