Mar. 03, 1956 - Australia Prepares For The 1956 Olympic Games Village Will Be Opened In October. The £A2, 700, 000 Olympic Village for the 1956 Olympic Games is rapidly taking shape at Heidelberg, eight miles from the Main Stadium - the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The village in its final form will consist of more than 837 modern brick and concrete houses and flats - a shopping centre - training area- former be-flagged entrance and large temporary dining halls. Work has started on landscaping the village - which will be formally opened on October 29. Keystone Photo Shows:- An Athletes bedroom in Olympic Village. Each bedroom will be occupied by two athletes. Two beds with inner-spring mattresses - two chairs, wardrobe and cupboard will be installed in each room
