MIGRANT MANCHESTER FAMILY FIGHTS AUST ALIAN GOVERNMENT.: One of Australia's biggest migrant families - all 36 of them, recently threatened to return to England because one member was barred from immigrating. They are the family of 59-year old widow, MRS. ELLEN BROOKS, who come to Sydney with 5 married daughter's, one married grand-daughter and other grandchildren. Mrs. Brookes called a meeting of the clan - at which 33 of the 36 gathered - to discuss the refusal of the Immigration Department to allow her son Allan, to join them. Allen, 25, is about last member of the family who has not immigrated or.is in the process of immigration. The Immigration Department ruled he and his wife could not come from the family home in Manchester, because the wife has had two epileptic fits. Mrs. Brookes described the department's ban as ridiculous considering the mild nature of her daughter-in-law's illness. She has only suffered two fits in her life, and that was during childbirth. Mrs. Brookes explained. Later, the Immigration authorities bent the regulations slightly in favour of the 36-strong British migrant family of Brookes, and removed the barrier which so offended the family.
