Aug. 25, 1955 - Soviet troops leave Austria: The main body of Soviet infantry and tank units at the St. Poelten area, in Lower Austria, left the town on Tuesday. Many commandered buildings were put to Austrian use and others will be cleared by the occupation authority soon. Only small contingent of Soviet troops remained at St. Poelten.
