Oct. 10, 1956 - Martial law in Hungary: Budapest radio today announced that Martial Law is in force in Hungary. The Hungarian Government has asked Soviet troops to restore order in the country'. Another announcement said that fighting was in progress with Russian troops taking part. The announcement said Any attempt to overthrow the Hungarian people's democracy will be punished by death'.
