Jan. 23, 1959 - The Forgotten Mother - After Two Years Her Son Did Not Know Her: For two years Hungarian freedom fighter Mrs Maria Mikulecz waited for the day when she would be re-united with her three-year-old son. Then came the day when it happened - but instead of joy Mrs. Mikulecz found grief and dissapointment - for the boy would not even take her hand. Clutching at a Red Cross nurse who arrived with him he stared blankly at the mother he no longer recognised. Mrs. Mikulecz last saw her son Istvan as Russian tanks rumbled through Budapest. He was taken by his grandmother to Israel. Then when Mr. and Mrs Mikulecz came to England Istvan and his grandmother were traced by the Red Cross. When young Istvan arrived at a Manchester station his mother was waiting to meet him. But when he would not take her hand she burst into tears. My God, she sobbed, this is terrible'. He was taken to Mrs Mikuleoz's home at Denton where he met his father who also shared the heartache. But now young Istvan is beginning to settle down in his new surroundings. Photo Shows: The scene as young Istvan arrives in Manchester but remains cold to his mother who is seen offering him chocolate
