Oct. 10, 1953 - 125 years Reclam.: On October 1st the Reclam-publishing-house could celebrate the 125th annviersary of its existence. It was founded in 1828 in Leipzig by - book-trader Anton Philipp Reclam and after 39 years (in 1867) he gave the publishing-house its well-known importance by the foundation of the Universal Library, the first cheap pocket-books of the world. In 1950 the firm was placed under trusteeship by the Soviets after having dismantled the bock-binding plant and the printing-press in 1946 already. Then the publishing house was re-founded in Stuttgart in 1947 and in the meantime spread the universal-library with 550 different books with a total amount of 13 millions of copies.
