Dec. 09 Somerset Maugham - Nonagenarian - in Venice.: For the past sixty years, Somerset Maugham grand old man of the novel and short story has spent the spring in Venice, musing, writing sitting in St. Mark's Square, or walking through the ancient streets. This year he is there once again, But this year is different, for he was ninety in January, and to ninety in the spring in Venice is something very special. Six months of the year he spends in Cap Ferra on the Cote d'Azur and for the rest of the time he travels all over Europe, but a present he is staying for a month at the Hotel Gritty on the Grand Hotel with his secretary Alan Searle, working during the morning at the last part of his memoirs, ninety years of them and shortly to be joined by friend and film director George Cukor.
