Apr. 17 The hird Asian Wriers Conferece was held in Taipei June in 16-19 with 130 delegates from 18 countries and ares participating. During the four days the writers held discussions on National literature, the status of novel, contemporary poetry and prose, drama of modern society the use and abuse of the function of mass communications, translation of Asian languages, and the problems which arias writers re facing. The conference was sponsored by the Pen Club of the Republic of China. The opening ceremony was presided of Dr. Lin Yutang, President of the Chinese Pen Club. The conference heard speeches made by Chinese Vice President C.K. Yen, Japanese Nobel Literature Prize winner Yasunari Kawabata, secretary general of International Pen Club David Carver, and Chinese Painter Chang Ta-Chilen. Dr. Lin Yutang guided Mr. Kawabata on a tour of an exhibition of modern paintings in Taipei
