Jan. 01, 1969 - News of the World Takeover Bid. Murdoch Wins Vote. Mr. Robert Maxwell (Pergamon Press) and Mr. Rupert Murdoch (News Ltd. of Australia), the contenders in the take over struggle for the News of the World, were at today's extraordinary meeting of News of the World shareholders. The N.O.W. shareholders voted 299 to 20 on a show of hands in favour of the deal with News Ltd. the Australian group. But a final decision waits until written pledges have been received from the 400 odd shareholders who attended the meeting in London. The result of this poll was expected later today.
