Oct. 24, 1968 - Mr. Rupert Murdoch Gives Press Conference on His Bid to Take Over the News of The World. Mr. Rupert Murdoch, the 37 year old Australian who has moved into the battle for the News of the World help defeat Mr. Robert Maxwell's take over bid held a press conference this morning at the Great Eastern Hotel, Liverpool Street, with him was Lord Catto, a managering director of Morgan Cromfell merchant bankers who are acting for him in the take over bid. Murdoch's News Ltd. of Adelaide, a big group owning the Australian a suring of local newspaper and TV interests, has been buying News of the World shares in supper of the Carr family who control about 3 percent of the newspaper.
