Nov. 11, 1969 - Top German Honour for British Art Critic: Dr. Josef paul Hodin, the internationally famous art critic, author and art historian, today received one of Germany's highest honours - Order of Merit (Verdienstkreuz) First Class - at a lunch time reception given by the German Embassy in Belgrave Square, London, The award, made int recognition of his contributions to the world of art and for his services in promoting anglo-German understanding, is the latest of several important honours conferred on Dr. Hodin. Others are ; Commander. Order of Merit (Italy); St. Olav Medal (Norway); Grand Cross, Order of Merit (Austria); and an Honorary Ph. D. from Uppsala University in Sweden. Born in 1905 in Prague, he worked in Dresden and Berlin during the early 1930's before spending ten years in Scandinavia. He is now a British subject and lives in Hampstead, London, with his wife Pamela, and their two children.
