Jul. 15, 1975 - July 15th: 75. Day of Death of Anton Tshechov He died three-quarter century ago....but in his work he is still alive: Anton Tshechov, the Russian poet. His day of death is at July 15th 1979, 75 years since. Tchechov was born at January 19th 1860 in Taganrog/Russia. He studied physics, but he changed, before he works as a physics, to writing. He started with little humorous essays and feuilletons, developed soon to a master of the novel and the short story, he painted very good the people ahead the situations of his time (especially the new coming up Russian petty bourgeoisie). The Duel, The Sea-Gull, Uncle Wanj, Three Sisters and The Cherry-Garden are accounted to Tshechovs most well-known - and till today most successful -drama
