Sep. 09, 1980 - Desk For Sale: Two desks which belonged to Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning are being sold this afternoon at Bonham's the London auctioneers. Robert Browning's desk is in marquetry and was made in northern Italy. The smaller table of the two was used by Elizabeth Barrett Browning and on it is thought that she wrote Aurora Leigh her major work. The two desks stood in the sitting room of the poets home in Florence (1847-1861). Also in the sale is a silver tea kettle which was used by the couple. Photo shows Melanie Arnold seated at Elizabeth Barrett Browning small table desk and in the foreground Robert Brownings desk upon which stands the silver tea kettle
