Babies - Children - Multiple Births

1963 - Dennis Uttley Helps Deaf Children To Learn By Showing Them Places And Things Of Interest: Using the bus bought from his own savings but now paid for by money form the Gulbenkian Foundation, Dennis Uttley takes parties of deaf children to places of interest in and around London. At Guildford Castle he explains constructional details as the children feel the stones with their hands. He will carry on the explanations back in school. The value of these outings is two-fold:- children of this age can only just read, and apart from signs and grunts, have little means of communication. These outings encourage conversation and help them visualize things described to them in a somewhat limited deaf vocabulary. (Credit Image: (c) Keystone Pictures USA/ZUMAPRESS.com/Mary Evans)
