1959 - Stephen Is Now One of the Boys'. Hole in Heart Baby goes to school. Stephen Smith of Wood Green, was born with a hole in his heart, and doctors felt convinced that he would not live long enough to go to school. Readers of a London newspaper contributed nearly, 000 to send him to America for the operation that saved his life. He returned to London in January and is now well enough to go to school and to act just like any other boy of his age.
