Jun. 06, 1966 - The Lawn mower Grand Prix: Farmer Michael Smith got a good part of a field mown for nothing yesterday. He lent a field to a group of energitie young people who held a motor mower grand prix at Sarre, in Kent - a world championship match, they called it. They dashed round a 250-yard circuit and cut the grass in no time. But not without mishaps. Some mowers refused to start, another jammed ones it had started, and a third burst into flames and had to be cooled off with a wet sack. The young men and women who went to mow are members of the Canterbury and Thanet Young Farmers Club. Photo shows Mower girl Susan Callaghan, aged 15, rounds a bend with other competitors
