Sep. 09, 1981 - Oxfam goes Christmas shopping: Oxfam today launched their 1981 catalogue. By far the largest number of items come from producer groups in the developing countries. These go way beyond any old fashioned concept of Third World Handicrafts - the cane baskets are still there along with lampshades but they are now joined by many more superb items. The groups and cooperatives who have produced them are to be found in Bangladesh, India, the Philippines, Thailand. Oxfam can fairly claim to be giving every Christmas shopper the opportunity to fill their present lists with items that are really value for money and at the same time a chance to help parts of the world that really need it.
