Baby bear with keeper Brian Harman, London Zoo

Mar. 03, 1969 - First Day Out For Royal Baby Bear At The Zoo: Taking her first look at the outside world today was the little Syrian Bear cub born at the London Zoo on 28th December last. Up to now she has been living in snug private quarters behind the scenes on the Mappin Terraces with her mother, as in the wild. The she-bear lives in semi-hibernation with her cubs, not venturing out of her lair until the Spring. The honey- coloured cub, which has not yet been named, was only about 11/2 lbs when born and now weighs some 15 lbs. After making her debut, she was being returned to her mother Winnie in the Bear Den in the Main Gardens, and from noon will be on view to visitors. The cub's father is Nikki, presented to Princess Anne in April 1956 by Mr. Khrushchev and Mr. Bulganin when they visited this country.
