Baby crocodile, Mansa, at London Zoo

Dec. 12, 1961 - Prince Andrew's Crocodile to be Shown at London Zoo: Mansa, the baby crocodile presented to the Queen during her African tour has arrived on deposit at London Zoo. He is a gift to Prince Andrew from the people of Berending, a village on the Gambia River, not far from Bathurst, Gambia. The croc - which is nearly two years old and may grow to a record 16 feet in the next 16 to 20 years - made the journey from Africa in the Royal Plane and spent his first night in Britain at Buckingham Palace. He will go on view at the Zoo tomorrow. Photo shows Mansa - the name means King in Mindingo - at the London Zoo today
