Feb. 02, 1958 - Preparing for the George Washington Ball in London.. the finishing touches were being put to the 160 lbs. American white cake - this morning - in readiness for the Ball which is being held at Claridge Hotel this evening to celebrate the 276th anniversary of the birth of George Washington.. The cake which is in three tiers - is surmounted by a replica of the Washington Monument - in Washington D.C. and is 4 ft. high.. It has been made at the Columbia Officer's Club, Lancaster Gate by Sgt. Pullin of the American Air Force - and M. Emile Sukany the Club's Head Baker. Keystone Photo Shows: Five year old Stephen Perkins looks on as M. Emile Sukany puts the finishing touches to the cakes.. Stephen comes from Texas and is the son of Col. Nicholas Perkins the Air Attache designate to Yugoslavia
