Mar. 03, 1974 - Cobalt 60 radiation for long storage of potatoes: Japan's Shihoro Agricultural Cooperative Association in Hokkaido, have installed a system to store potatoes for long periods to prevent hem germinating by exposing them to Cobalt 60 radiation. Photo shows the plant showing the large turntable with the cobalt 60 radiator in the centre. The containers carry 1.4 tons of potatoes around the conveyor belt at a time, and 15, 000 tons of potatoes a month can be processed against germination and rot. The operation is controlled from outside the radiation room
