Nov. 11, 1975 - Battered wives take over the Palm court hotel at Richmond: The Palm Court Hotel at Richmond, complete with ballroom, bars and numerous bedrooms with bathroom, was in use yesterday for the first time in four years.During those years it has been left to decay, but suddenly the old house, tenuously protected by a conversation order, has come to life again. Children's laughter fills the damp smelling rooms as 17 battered wives, who have been driven from their homes, try to establish a new life for themselves in the hotel they took over commando style in the early hours of Saturday.The women have worked non-stop helped by Chiswick Women's Aid to clean up the old house which has no electricity and no running water.
