Oct. 10, 1975 - Pretty Jane's taste-budding profession is beer tasting but she hates the stuff: Jane Harland, 22, must be the envy of millions of beer drinkers throughout Britain, for her job is testing beer to make sure that the ale which eventually is sold in pubs is just right. But there is a snag-Jane hates the stuff - she drinks plenty of tea. Jane got the job because Bass Charrington, noticed heracute sense of taste when she used to complain if the tea tasted odd. she has to identify the odd one of three beer served in black glasses and give her comments. The brewery is looking for phenolics in the water used its a kind of antiseptic and Jane can pick it out at a sip. Photo shows tea-lover Jane Harland surrounded by hundreds of barrels of beer as she carries out her job of beer-tasting at the Bass Charrington works in Runcorn, Cheshire
