The Thames Escapologist Alan Alan, the only British competitor in this year's Circus Olympics, which start on Clapham Cormon from Monday 11th, was hoisted on a burning rope high above the Thames near Tower Bridge today. Chained, padlocked, handcuffed and suspended upside down. He had two minutes thirty seconds to free himself before the rope burns through and parts. Alan was not wearing a safety harness. He just made it even though he took 45 seconds more than the limit, this was because it was so cold his hands went numb it took him longer to get free. Photo Shows: Alan seen hanging upside down 100 foot above the Thames today with the rope burning away
