May 05, 1966 - Fails Driving Test For 17th. Time - Now Turns Comedian: Retired machine operator Arthur Ries, 67, yesterday failed his driving test for the 17th time - and decided to become a comedian. When he goes on stage his partner will be his hypnotist friend, Berto Riselli, who has twice used his powers, unsuccessfully, to help Mr. Ries pass the test. They plan to do sketches on motoring. It was while under hypnosis that Polish-born Mr. Ries, who lives in Kilburn, discovered he could write. During a trance he wrote a sketch called How not to pass a driving test. Mr. Ries estimated that his attempts to become a driver have cost him3000.
