Aug. 08, 1971 - The Charity Tightrope walk that failed. 30 year old Cologne spiderman Franz Josef Burbach, today made an attempt to make an 820 feet tight rope walk between two warehouses 60 feet above the Thames near Tower Bridge. But he attempt, which was in aid of spastics, failed after a series of mishaps. First his balancing pole was damaged, so he tried to walk without it, but he didn't get very far, so he decided to crawl across, but only managed to get just over halfway across before falling into the water. Hitherto Franz has only tightrope walked the length of his garden in Palmer's green. Keystone Photo shows: Franz Josef Burbach seen after being picked up out of the water today
