Jun. 08, 1976 - A surprise visit for ?Smartie? the sick clown ? ?Smartie? one time top clown with Billy Smart?s Circus, who is now a very sick man suffering from heart and lung trouble and has to be taken around in a wheelchair, was recently re-discovered by Derek Stevenson, who once worked with him. Derek, who is now with Gerry Cottle?s Circus, decided to pay a surprise visit to Smartie with a gang of clowns from the circus today. They insisted that Smartie should be made up as in the past as part of the celebration. The clowns intend to make this an annual call when they are in the Croydon area, where Smartie lives.
