May 05, 1964 - Screaming Lord Sutch starts pirate radio: Pop singer Screaming Lord Sutch, who stood for Parliament at Startford Upon Avon, but forfeited his deposit, announced yesterday that he was entering the pirate radio ship war with the two current ships Radio Caroline and Radio Atlanta, which are anchored off the Essex coast outside the three mile limit. Lord Sutch, clad in pirate rig, has chartered the fishing boat Cornucopia which he has equipped with a couple of amatuer radio transmitters, and he intends publicising little known pop groups, and also giving reading from books such as Lady Chatterley's Lover and Fanny Hill'.
