Sep. 09, 1960 - A Heck of A Noise - From The Youngsters of Amsterdam. The Annual Day of The Drummers'. The last Saturday in September - every year in a gala day for the youngsters of Amsterdam - for then - they are allowed to parade through the streets of the city - and around the floor of the Amsterdam Stock Exchange --- playing their drums for all they are worth. The custom arose from a day in the 17th. century when a boy prevented a gun powder explosion at the stock exchange. The authorities passed a rule allowing the youngsters of the city to make as much noise as they liked with their drums - at the Exchange on one day each year.
