The Hong Kong group DANNY DIAZ AND THE CHECKMATES, who won a 10, 000 dollar recording contract and appearances on radio and television in Britain and the continent - which was the first prize in one of Hong Kong's major pop events The Battle of the Sound competition - are now in London. DANNY DIAZ AND THE CHECKMATES, whose first British single Solomon Grundy has just been released, are: DANNY DIAZ, 19, his two brothers, ROMEO, 20, and RUDI, 21, and DOMINGO TANTENGCO.
