Minister of Transport inspects London's new Red Arrow Multi-Standing bus.: The Minister of Transport, Mrs. Barbara Castle, today inspected one of London Transport's new Red Arrow multi-standing bus which are to start running an experimental service next month between Victoria Station and Marble Arch. The Minister was accompanied by Mr. Maurice Holmes. Chairman of London Transport. Six Red Arrow single deckers have been specially designed by London transport to carry shop and office workers as quickly as possible over this short and heavily-used route from and to the Southern Region main line station at Victoria. Thirty six feet long, they will, each carry 25 seated passengers and 4s standing. They will run every three or four minutes in the rush hours, supplementing the ordinary stopping buses on parallel services between Victoria and Marble Arch, and will have their own specially signed stops. The Red Arrows - route 500 - are painted in London bus red with a distinctive waistband of mist grey carrying the name Red Arrow'. They will have no conductor; the driver will control the power-operated doors both at the front entrance at at the exit in the middle while passengers are boarding and alighting. A flat fare of 6d. will be charged on the Red Arrows for any journey and passengers will pay as they pass through twin coin-in-the-slot gates at the entrance.
