Mar. 03, 1960 - Meridian The 15-feet High Sculpture by Barbara Hepworth Is Unveiled at State House.: Sir Philip Hendy, the Director of the National Gallery, today unveiled Meridian, the largest ever sculpture created by Barbara Hepworth, CBE. It stands outside one of London's Principal Office developments, the sixteen-story State House in High Holborn, London WC. Miss Hepworth, who received the Major Award at the 1959 Sao Paulo Biennial Exhibition, worked for four-and-a-half months on Meridian at her St. Ives Studio. The Plaster cast weighed 27 cwt. And the famous Susse Foundry in Paris- the world's Largest Art Foundry weighs four tons. Meridian, which is abstract in conception, is 15-feet high.
