The Barge Theatre, first floating theatre in London

1967 - NEW THEATRICAL PROJECT, THE BARGE THEATRE. A new kind of theatre ls announced today. It will be London's first floating theatre, will seat two hundred people in a covered auditorium and will be open all the year round. The Barge Theatre, as it is to be named, will provide the first permanent home in England for Children's Theatre. DurIng term time and holidays there will be performanoes for children in the mornings and afternoons. In the evening there will be plays for adults. A morning for the floating theatre has been reserved in the Cumberland Basin (Regents Canal) near the Zoo, St. Mark's Church and opposite the Barque and Bite Restaurant. A reoeption to explain the plans was held today and a barge set off along the canal to the mooring where the floating theatre will have its permanent home when built.
