Baroness Elizabeth de T'Serclars at Ministry of Defence
Jun. 06, 1968 - One of the most decorated women of World War I 84 year old Baroness Elizabeth de T'Serclars visits the Ministry of Defence: Baroness Elizabeth de T'Serclars, MM, will be 84 next month, and is one of the most decorated women of World War I, and a member of the Women's Royal Air Force in both World Wars, today paid a visit to the Ministry of Defence, where she met Pilot Officer Sandra Alger, 18, of Hemel Hempstead from the Officer Cadet training Unit at RAF Station Henlow, Beds and winner of the Sash of Merit for the best WRAF Cadet. The Baroness was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery in the Field in 1927, and in 1915 King Albert of the Belgians decorated her in the field of Flanders with the Order of Leopold II - the first woman to be created a Knight (Chevalier) of the order of Leopold II. Ahe end of the same year Queen Elizabeth of the Belgians decorated her in the field with the Queen Elizabeth Medal for Honour in World War II the Baroness was twice mentioned in Dispatches, in 1942-43, each time for outstanding work in operational areas.
