Oct. 10, 1955 - Incredible Development in Sunglasses: Sunglasses made of a unique glass that lightens and darkens automatically to adjust to the brightness of the day have been developed. The glasses are the first to use what is called a Photo chromic glass that reacts solely to the ultraviolet rays in sunlight to change its tint as light conditions vary. They do not react to artificial light as produced by electric bulbs. Called Photo sun glasses, they become darkest when the sun is brightest, but fade to lighter tints on cloudy days or as sunlight wanes at dusk. The darkening and fading action of the glass occurs over and over again and never wears out. Revealed by the Corning Glass Company of New York, the Glasses are expected to to revolutionize the sun glass markets of the World
