Mar. 03, 1960 - Ex-model gets award of £1, , 194.. Million pound note mystifies the bank of England. Mrs. Velia Roberts, blonde ex-model Velia Dawes was yesterday awarded £1, 194 against the estate of her benefactor - Mr. Frederick Roberts (72) as result of injuries which she received in a car crash in which Mr. Roberts lost his life. Mrs. Roberts (she changed her name by deed poll) and Mr. Roberts were to have married after the former had divorced her husband - but the divorce was rescinded by the Queen's proctor. The couple lived together until Mr. Robert's death.. Officials at the Bank of England were said to be mystified - by a Million pound banknote - which Mrs. Roberts had in a frame at her flat. The note was dated June 30, 1903 and signed S.R. Howard. The officials said that million pound notes were used by the bank before 1812 - but were never in the general circulation. Two of these notes still exist. The note was said in court to be not current currency - and was worth no more than £100.
