Aug. 19, 1964 - 19-8-64 Modern style habits for 45, 000 nuns. First change since 1633 The biggest community of Nuns in the Roman Catholic Church have had their habits redesigned. They are the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul who number about 45, 000. The new habit was designed by the Mother General of the order at its Headquarters in Paris. It will be worn for the first time from Sept. 20th, and it is the first time that the habits have been changed since the order was founded in 1633. The new style is shorter in length than the old style ankle length made of wool and terylene instead of only wool. The chief change is the much smaller head dress.
