May 05, 1968 - Putting Back the Clock. The clock went back about a hundred years on the fashion scene in Carlisle Museum yesterday when seven girls swapped mini skirts for flowing ankle length Victorian dresses, handbags for parasols, and high heels for boots. The idea was to give the public a chance to see the clothes of the last century because there isn't enough room inside the museum for a permanent display. The clothes were given to the museum by Mr. Ronald Dickinson, vice chariman of Cumberland County Council. He found them while clearing out the attic at his family home, Red How, Lamplugh (Cumb). They belonged to ancestors, and some of the dresses are 150 years old, he said. Mr. Robert Hogg, curator of the museum said: The parade was a big success, and I thought the girls looked very nice. Without the parade no one would have seen the clothes because we haven't enough room to show them in the museum. Said one of the models, 18 year old Catherine Stevens, of Carlisle, The dresses were lovely - and warmer than minis, but I must admit they aren't as comfortable as modern clothes
