Jul. 31, 1967 - Miss World breaks away: Miss World, 23 year old Reita Faria, complained yesterday about the way she has been treated by the beauty contest organisers. She explained I came here as a student who knew nothing about the show business and they treated me like a child. Miss Faria, who won the contest as Miss India, said she would no longer be bound by her contract with the Mecca dance hall organisation. She was dissatisfied with arrangements made for engagements and alleged that Mecca had failed to give her a chaperon. Her lawyer, Mr. Michael Balin, said Miss Faria would consider herself free to take other work. although she would fulfill any engagements already made by Mecca. Mr. Eric Morley, joint managing director of Mecca, said last night Mecca has in no way broken the contract. I am quite happy to free Miss Faria from the contract if she wants, but it is another matter when she claims that we have committed a breach'. Mr. Morley claimed that a full time chaperon was appointed for Miss Faria, but she did not seem to want her when she went abroad on purely personal matters. Now, in England, she suddenly decides she wants one. He added: Miss Faria is basically a very nice girl. Miss Faria's term of office ends on November 17. So far the title has earned her not a lot, she said about ?8, 000. Photo shows Miss World 23 year old Reita Faria, pictured yesterday
