1970 - Contestants For The Miss England Title Wears An Eye-Patch: Deirdre Greenland, a 20-year-old receptionist, made history last night when she appeared before the judges in the Miss England contest at the Lyceum Ballroom in London, wearing an eye-patch. At the very last minute her eye began to hurt and water, so she was given an eyepatch to wear during the contest.
