1971 - Miss England 71: Model Marilyn Ward aged 21, of Herdle Hasts, last night at the Lyseum Ballroom, in the Strand, London, won the Miss England title and a £1, 000. Miss Ward by winning this title will now have an all expenses-paid trips to the Miss Europe contest and the Miss Universe pageant at Miami Beach. She is planning to marry 28 year old Peter Franch and she said I shall not let a title spoil my love for his'.
