Jun. 29, 1959 - The most beautiful chamois-beard': was to be found in a contest on June 28th, 1959 in Fritz am Sand (FRITZ AM SAND) near Ruhpolding in Upper Bavaria. For the first time, this competition was held, and 300 people took part in it. The initiative to this comes from Hans Bichter, a woodcutter, member of the traditional club The Rauschberg- Ruhpoldinger'. The chamois-beard for centuries has been the sign for especially keen hunters in the Alpine district. (A beard of the chamois consists of 700 bunches of 25 hairs each that means together about 2000 to 2500 hairs. Its lenght is up to 25 centimetres.
