Beauty contest in Hastings, Sussex
Dec. 20 Lovely Sheelagh Black works in Hastings. She has come forward to help in the Challenge but is a little wary of what her boyfriend might say if she is chosen for Battle Of Hastings 1953 Version: the town of Hastings has thrown out a beauty challenge to every other town in Britain and it has been accepted. The man behind the Challenge is Councillor J.H. Sims-Hilditch who claims that Hastings has the six prettiest girls in the country. Further along the coast Brighton claims their girls have won more trophies for beauty than in any other town. Councillor Sims-Hilditch is not thinking in terms of professional models or girls who go round the country entering all the beauty contests. He's thinking of the girls who work in Hastings, and he's not thinking of cheesecake either, I don't want to make our girls a peepshow, or give the wrong impression he says, I am no prude and men like a trim ankle and curvaceous women, therefore I am on the lookout for all that, coupled with neat attire and pleasant manner. I think that will fit our idea of a perfect Hastings girl. The response from the girls in Hastings has been magnificent and the Councillor is going to have a difficult job picking his final six. They have volunteered not with the idea of winning anything but just to show their civic pride. The contest will be a healthy contribution to the events of Coronation Year. The Councillor is offering a cup to the winners, and he's sure they will be Hastings girls
