Sep. 09, 1981 - Modern Highwayman': Scottish Opera has brought its highly acclaimed Edinburgh Festival Production of The Beggar's Opera to the Dominion Theatre, London, The opera opened last night for a limited run of only ten days. The Beggars Opera which is based on the low life of London in the eighteenth century was first performed at the Lincoln's Inn Theatre in 1728 and is often considered the ancestor of the American musical.
