Bernhard Grzimek, German zoologist and writer
Apr. 24, 1979 - Prof. Dr. Bernhard Grzimek becomes 70 years old: Bernhard Grzimek, German zoologist, writer, and manager of the zoo in Frankfurt, West Germany from 1945-1974, will be 70 on 24 April 1979. Born in Neisse, Silesia he became well known with works about animal psychology. As a writer Bernhard Grzimek has published a 13 volume animal encyclopedia. He is the curator of the Tanzania national park in Africa, he was from 1970-1973 the federal commissioner for nature protection in West Germany, since 1973 president of the zoological society 1858, since 1960 chief publisher of the paper Das Tier and with more than 20 years TV series Ein Platz fur Tiere he has a firm place in the minds of TV-watchers. He was awarded in 1971 the Golden Ark and received in 1960 an Oscar for his film Seregenti darf nicht sterben
